Britain's Got Talent: Bars and Melody miss out on ITV talent show crown
By Emma Sisk
Young Welsh rapper Leondre Devries won the hearts of fans across the UK last night with a brilliant performance on Britain’s Got Talent.
Despite missing out on winning the ITV talent show to boyband Collabro, the Port Talbot 13-year-old schoolboy and partner Charlie Lenehan, 15, earned rave reviews in coming third.
Head judge Simon Cowell even told them: “You are just the nicest sweetest kids I’ve ever met and I hope my son Eric turns out like you.”
Young Leondre was clearly disappointed after hosts Ant and Dec revealed they had finished in third place after the public vote but kept his composure to thank everyone who had voted for them.
“It has been such an honour, even to get this far has been amazing,” he said.
“Thank you so much to everyone. You’ve just changed our lives.
His story, of immersing himself in music a way of escaping from the bullies who tormented him at school, had melted viewers across the country.
The judges had given the boys rave reviews and a standing ovation after their performance of the audition song that initially won them a place in the talent show and has since been viewed 29 million times on YouTube.
Judge David Walliams said: “Well boys you smashed it tonight. It’s a beautiful song. I’m so glad you sang it tonight.
“I think on the strength of tonight’s performance we could be looking at the winners.”
Aleesha Dixon added: “I could burst. I just love you guys. Your vocals are so good. I just love you. I agree with David, you could win this show.”
Their words were echoed by Amanda Holden.
She said: “You are both so talented as people, your mum and dad must be so proud.
“You’ve got such lovely personalities. You’ve got that quiet confidence but its not arrogance. Its so endearing.”
And the highest praise of all came from head judge Simon Cowell.
He said: It was just a great performance. the reason it was so great was because it was from the heart.
“You meant everything you sang. You are just the nicest sweetest kids I’ve ever met and I hope my son Eric turns out like you.”
Before the show, Leondre’s mum Victoria Lee, 40, had said Leondre and Charlie, who lives in Bristol, would be delighted for whoever won the show.
She said: “Ever since he was very, very young Leondre has wanted to perform.
“It was always something he wanted to pursue. He loves music. All his family love music.”
She said the adulation that had surrounded him had been fantastic. The boys were even invited to the US by Ellen DeGeneres to appear on her show.
But she said the experience has not changed either of the boys, who are still keeping up with school work as they rehearse relentlessly ahead of tonight’s final.
She said: “We all hope that they will win but they are winners no matter what. As parents we are extremely proud of them. ”
Bars & Melody已經被Simon Cowell簽下，並在徵求12至19歲之間的少年加入拍攝他們的首支音樂錄影帶
